Toubkal, trekking and happiness at the heart of the Atlas

Jebel Toubkal is the highest peak of the High Atlas and Morocco and North Africa with 4167 m. It is located 63 km south of Marrakech, in the province of Al Haouz, inside the national park that bears his name.

Jbel Saghro

The Jbel Saghro is located between the High Atlas Mountains and the Sahara desert. Monoliths and high volcanic peaks looking like the southwest of the United States with plateaus of sparse vegetation, canyons and oases. We will meet and have tea with the nomads Ait Atta who live in this hostile and isolated landscape. Jackals, foxes, wolves, toads, frogs, buzzards and Bonelli's eagle (declining) also live here. The trees consist of date palms, acacias, tamarisks and oleanders.

The ascent of M'goun, the Happy Valley

Toubkal peak and Sahara Trek

A perfect combination of trekking in the High Atlas and the Moroccan Sahara

This journey will give you the opportunity to discover the traditional Berber culture and heritage.
With its 4167m, Mount Toubkal is the highest peak in North Africa. It takes courage and dedication to the summit, but once your goal is reached, the panoramic view will reward you for your effort!
After the ascent of Toubkal, you will discover the magnificent and surreal landscapes of the Sahara. You will cross old fortified villages (Ksar) and citadels (Kasbah). The Sahara region is undoubtedly the most diverse in its landscapes and its habitat.

Day 1 (4 to 5h walking) :
Arrived in Imlil, you walk along the Mizan valley, you go through the small village of Aremd. You cross floodplains by mule and then to high cliffs. After crossing the river, short break will give you the opportunity to admire the ancient sanctuary of the Marabout Sidi pastoral Chamarouch, which always attracts pilgrims. Then you continue your ascent to reach the limits of the snow and the refuge of Toubkal. This will be your accommodation for the night.

Day 2 :
Early in the morning, you begin the ascent of Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa. After the trail around the south circus, you cross a small stream located above the refuge. Until then, walking is relatively simple, but then scree and altitude complicates the ascent, quite difficult in some passages. However you will have breaks and the landscape will reward you for your efforts. After the peak, you discover a panorama breathtaking. You have a 360° view of a large part of Morocco, at one side Marrakech leading to the Anti Atlas and the Sahara at the opposite. Then, you go back on your way to Imlil where you spend the night.

Day 3 :
After breakfast, you take the direction to the Sahara through 4x4.
You go through the mountain pass Tizi n’Tichka, the highest in North Africa, with spectacular views of the High Atlas. Your route will be dotted with Berber villages, oueds, slopes, kasbahs ... After lunch, head to the road of 1000 Kasbahs, the Valley of Roses, the Dades Valley. Night in the Dades gorges.

Day 4 :
After breakfast, head to Todra and the dunes of Erg Chebbi. There, on camel, you join the camp where you spend the night in Berber tents. After watching the sunset, you can enjoy a typical dinner and a Tuareg atmosphere.

Day 5 :
After watching the sunrise, and had breakfast at the camp, back to the inn with your camel. From there, return to Marrakech by the mountain pass Tizi n'Tichka.

Toubkal and Berber village

Outside the winter months, the ascent of Toubkal is not technical as soon as you are reasonably fit.
Trekking from the valley of Imlil.
In the peace of the Azzaden valley, where traffic jams are usually caused by four-legged animals : goats !

Day 1 :
After your transfer from Marrakech to the valley of Imlil (1780m), leave for around 6 hours’ trek in the Azzaden valley. Along the way, you will pass the mountain pass Tizi n'Mzik (2450m), the Azib n'Tansoult refuge and Ighouliden waterfalls. Night at Neltner refuge at 3000m (or before at Azib n'Tamsoult).

Day 2 :
Steep rise of Azzaden valley to Toubkal refuge on Aguelzim mountain (3560m) . Lunch facing spectacular views of the Atlas Mountains. Night in the refuge of Toubkal.

Day 3 :
Wake up early to climb the Toubkal (4167m) where, if the clouds permit, you will have an incredible view of the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara desert. Then back to the refuge and Imlil. It's a pretty long day with 8-9 hours walking, from 900m to almost 2500m. Transfer to Marrakech or overnight at Imlil.
